From Levels 1 to 20, we’re going to purely level up as a Primalist Bloodrager due to the powerful Abilities we’ll gain at later levels. Primalist’s specialize in activating Bloodrage to receive Morale Bonuses on Will Saves and Strength and Constitution, thereby improving Melee Attack and Damage Rolls while gaining temporary HP. You will, however, take a small Armor Class (AC) penalty. Entering a Bloodrage or Raging is a Free Action, which means that you can combine this with a Standard Action in order to inflict damage.

Note that when this ends, you become temporarily fatigued. And in this case, you won’t be able to activate Bloodrage for a period of time. At Level 17, you can counter this issue thanks to Tireless Bloodrage. It states that you’ll no longer succumb to fatigue even if Bloodrage ends.

By the time you reach Level 11, this Ability is enhanced further with Greater Bloodrage. On top of the additional Morale Bonuses, you can now cast a Bloodrager Level 2 Spell or lower, which has the “Touch” or “Self” description, as a Swift Action when Bloodrage is active.

Greater Bloodrage Primalist Bloodrager Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Build

This is something that isn’t possible for Barbarians, making the Bloodrager a far better Class to play as. To make matters better, you finally gain Mighty Bloodrage at Level 20. Similar to Greater Bloodrage, your Morale Bonuses become much more valuable and you can now cast Level 4 Buffs, or the maximum Spell level of your Build. As such, you’re able to follow through with a powerful Full Attack in the same turn.

When it comes to Bloodrager Proficiencies, you’re proficient with Simple and Martial Weapons, Light and Medium Armor, and Shields. For your Warrior Bloodrager, you’ll be equipping the Glaive without Armor. The Glaive is a Reach Weapon that adds protection since you’re usually positioned behind tanks and other Melee Damage Dealers to execute attacks from a safer distance. Instead of Armor, you’ll personally cast Mage Armor and Shield to boost AC.

Coupled with the Archmage Armor Mythic Ability, you effectively increase your defenses, more so than wearing Medium Armor. Additionally, you constantly receive better iterations of the Damage Reduction Class Feature, which notably reduces the damage you take.

With the Primalist, selecting the Arcane Bloodline at Level 1 is a good choice because it allows you to apply Spell Effects as a Free Action when entering a Bloodrage. For instance, with Greater Arcane Bloodrage, you can cast Displacement to grant you total concealment, which increases the miss chance of enemies by 50%.

From Levels 4 to 16 and after every four levels, you’ll have the choice to either retain your Arcane Bloodline powers or to change it in place of two Rage Powers. Here are the Primal Choices you have to select in order:

PRIMALIST BLOODRAGER PRIMAL CHOICES
 Level 4  Arcane Bloodrage
 Level 8  Greater Arcane Bloodrage
Level 12  Lethal Stance, Increased Damage Reduction
 Level 16  True Arcane Bloodrage

For the majority of levels, you’ll be retaining your bloodline power except at Level 12. At this level, you’ll notice that there are two new rage powers, namely Lethal Stance and Increased Damage Reduction. The former improves your Melee Attacks the higher your level is whereas the latter considerably reduces the damage you take for better survivability.

Lastly and similar to Fighters, you get to choose several Bonus Feats:

PRIMALIST BLOODRAGER BONUS FEATS
 Level 6  Arcane Strike
 Level 9  Power Attack
 Level 12  Improved Initiative
 Level 15  Iron Will
 Level 18  Disruptive

Arcane Strike and Power Attack significantly boost your Damage Rolls. Power Attack, specifically, doubles the damage dealt when you’re wielding a Two-Handed Weapon so you’re able to land deadly blows with your Glaive. On the other hand, with Iron Will and Disruptive, you improve your Will Saves, which is the weakest among the Saving Throws, while raising the DC of Spells cast defensively. This means that you’re able to cast Spells safely without provoking Attacks of Opportunity from nearby enemies.

Race, Attributes and Skills | Primalist Bloodrager Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Build

The best Race for this Primalist Bloodrager Build is the Aasimar because it allows you to choose the Angelkin (Angel-Blooded) Heritage. It provides you with bonuses to Strength and Charisma, which are the primary Attributes of your character, as well as Lore (Religion) and Use Magic Device. Since our focus is on utilizing Melee Weapon and Bloodrager Spell Damage, we won’t be investing Skill points into Use Magic Device. In terms of the Background, you can choose anything that fits your playstyle.

In Character Creation, you’ll want to allocate points to the following Attributes:

Attributes at Level 1 Primalist Bloodrager Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Build

Starting at Level 4 and after every four levels, you’ll be able to add 1 point to any of your Attributes. For this Build, you’ll raise Charisma and Strength. Charisma is your Spellcasting Ability that determines how well you cast Spells and how much of them you learn. At Level 4, you’ll invest 1 point into Charisma to raise it to 16 with a modifier of +3. You can further enhance this Attribute by personally casting Eagle’s Splendor.

Attributes at Level 20 Primalist Bloodrager Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Build

At Levels 8, 12, 16 and 20, you’ll allocate points into Strength to raise its respective modifier to +6. This significantly enhances the Melee Attacks and Damage you inflict with your Two-Handed Weapon.

For Skills, you ought to invest in Persuasion, Athletics and Lore (Religion) due to the Feats you’ll take as well as the bonuses you initially receive with these. Persuasion is essential for Dazzling Display, which lets you intimidate targets within 30 feet of you as long as you successfully roll a Persuasion Check. As such, they become Shaken, thereby penalizing their Attack Rolls and Saves in Combat.

What makes this Feat highly effective is when it’s used in conjunction with Dreadful Carnage. Dreadful Carnage allows you to automatically intimidate enemies as a Free Action as long as you kill one of their own. Throughout the duration of the encounter, you’ll most likely weaken the foes around you.

Next, there’s Athletics and Lore (Religion). Athletics enables you to move heavy objects and jump across long distances to progress in quests while Lore (Religion) helps you recall knowledge about religions, which proves useful in dialogue.

Feats | Primalist Bloodrager Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Build

From Levels 1 to 19, you’ll be able to choose 10 Regular Feats for your Warrior Bloodrager with 1 Feat at every other level. You’ll focus on increasing the number of times you activate Bloodrage while attacking multiple targets in a single turn.

Cleave with Dazzling Display in Combat Primalist Bloodrager Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Build

Here are the Feats that you ought to take in order:

PRIMALIST BLOODRAGER REGULAR FEATS
 Level 1  Extra Bloodrage
 Level 3  Weapon Focus (Glaive)
 Level 5  Blind Fight
 Level 7  Dazzling Display
 Level 9  Improved Critical (Glaive)
 Level 11  Dreadful Carnage
 Level 13  Cleave
 Level 15  Cleaving Finish
 Level 17  Great Cleave
 Level 19  Improved Cleaving Finish

The idea behind some of these Feats is to stack up on Attack and Damage Rolls to deal Melee Damage effectively while negating the bonuses that concealed targets have against you with Blind Fight. Moreover, you’re given another chance to actually hit them by rerolling a second time.

In terms of Cleave and Great Cleave, you’re able to utilize your full Base Attack Bonus (BAB) with a single Glaive swipe. You can also make extra attacks in the same turn against enemies who are adjacent to your initial target. Note that you receive an AC penalty, which isn’t huge to be alarming. This can easily be rectified by casting personal buffs.

Additionally, you have Cleaving Finish and Improved Cleaving Finish as alternatives. Rather than hitting multiple enemies at once, you can perform regular Melee Attacks against a target. This is effective when they have no nearby allies. Because of the Weapon you’re wielding, you’re permitted to execute another attack against any creature within reach provided that you eliminate your initial target. This works well with Dreadful Carnage because you not only hit another foe using your highest BAB, but you also demoralize and weaken the others. As a Medium-sized character, you can hit those who are 6 feet away from you whereas if you become Large, your reach expands.

Spells | Primalist Bloodrager Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Build

Similar to Faith Hunters, Primalists are spontaneous Spellcasters. Rather than preparing Spells before resting, you have a number of Spell Uses per day. For this Bloodrager Build, you’ll focus on personally casting buffs to improve defenses, attacks and damage together with executing Touch Spells. The best buffs to obtain are Mage Armor, Shield, Enlarge Person, Protection from Alignment, Eagle’s Splendor, False Life, Mirror Image, Haste, Protection from Energy, Greater Magic Weapon, and Stoneskin.

Mage Armor is further enhanced thanks to Archmage Armor, which provides additional Armor Bonuses based on your Mythic Rank. However, the Spell’s bonuses don’t stack with the ones you receive from wearing Armor. As a result, I’ve chosen Mage Armor because in the long run, it notably boosts 50% of your AC more so than any Medium Armor.

You also have Enlarge Person to gain Strength and Size Bonuses as well as False Life to provide you with temporary HP that will first be depleted in combat. Furthermore, Stoneskin grants DR against Adamantine Weapons but you have to make sure that you have enough Diamond Dust in your inventory to cast it. Diamond Dust is pretty common in Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous so this shouldn’t be an issue.

In terms of Melee Touch Spells, the ones you’ll cast alongside Melee Weapon Attacks are Shocking Grasp and Frigid Touch. Shocking Grasp deals a maximum of 5d6 Electricity Damage while Frigid Touch inflicts 4d6 Cold Damage. Meanwhile, you’ll have to cast Vampiric Touch as a Standard Action because it’s a Level 3 Spell. The Spell not only deals Melee Damage but it also grants temporary HP depending on the damage you’ve dealt to keep you alive in encounters.

Remember that you’re not limited to these types of Spells since you can also choose others to deal AoE or Long Range Damage such as Fireball, Lightning Bolt, Dragon’s Breath, and Shout. Be sure to experiment with them as well.

Mythic Path | Primalist Bloodrager Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Build

For this Build, you can choose any Mythic Path depending on your roleplaying preference. You should, however, pick these 10 Mythic Abilities and Feats to enhance your defenses, Spellcasting and Melee Attacks:

Since you only unlock Levels 1 to 4 Spells, Abundant Casting and Improved Abundant Casing are sufficient to raise the number of Spell Uses per day. You also have Leading Strike and Ever Ready to deal additional Divine Damage and to receive Attack and Damage Roll Bonuses every time you perform Attacks of Opportunity.

For Mythic Feats, you’ll want to select the following:

  • Weapon Focus (Mythic) (Glaive)
  • Power Attack (Mythic)
  • Improved Critical (Mythic) (Glaive)
  • Mythic Resolve
  • Iron Will (Mythic)

These Feats not only improve attack, damage and the chances of executing Critical Hits, but they also enhance all of your Saves and max HP for greater survivability.

Equipment | Primalist Bloodrager Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Build

When it comes to your Warrior Bloodrager’s Weapon, I highly recommend equipping a Glaive like the Soulshear since it lets you inflict higher damage from a distance. As mentioned earlier, you won’t be wearing any Armor. Instead, you can wear the Shirt of Blazing Fighter. This Shirt provides you with extra Athletics Bonuses and Fire Resistance.

Next, you ought to wear standard Equipment to boost defenses such as the Amulet of Natural Armor, Cloak of Resistance, and Ring of Protection. What’s good with them this time around is their bonuses don’t come into conflict with any of your buffs. Additionally, in order to enhance both Strength and Constitution, it’s best to wear the Belt of Physical Might, which you can buy from the Skeletal Salesman. Lastly, you should also consider getting the Gloves of Dueling to avoid being disarmed.

Final Tips

The Primalist Bloodrager Build is simple compared to other Builds in the sense that you don’t have to multiclass with another Archetype to make your character effective in combat. For Melee Weapon Damage, you can intimidate enemies and attack them with Cleave to make use of your Full BAB. What makes you unique is your ability to cast Spells as a Swift Action in spite of Raging. With these Spells, you’re able to enhance your survivability and deal decent Melee Touch Damage even if you only acquire Level 4 Spells.

At Levels 2 and 5, you gain Uncanny Dodge and Improved Uncanny Dodge. These passives protect you from being flat-footed, which means that you don’t lose your Dexterity Bonus to AC when you face concealed targets. Since you can’t also be flanked, Sneak Attacks won’t work against you.

Improved Uncanny Dodge Primalist Bloodrager Pathfinder Wrath of the Righteous Build

Unless you happen to obtain the Headband of Alluring Charisma +6, it’s better to keep casting Eagle’s Splendor because it provides a higher Charisma Bonus compared to lower versions of this headband.
